Find your Purpose, Choose your Tree
Our mission is to create an international network of small groups that heal the world.
What’s Your Tree, and its parent organization, Off The Mat Into The World, understands that peace, justice, spiritual fulfillment and environmental renewal starts in our own families, our own communities and our own backyards.
What's Your Tree was created in 2006 by Julia Butterfly Hill and a team of community organizers, business leaders and educators. This program is based on Julia's insights from her well-publicized 2-year tree sit atop Luna, a 1,000+ year old redwood in Northern California.
What's Your Tree was originally developed for people who are inspired by Julia's story, but it reaches far beyond her "fans." A wide range of people with a diversity of backgrounds participate in What's Your Tree:
Julia's action required her to expand beyond the boundaries of who she knew herself to be. It required her to lead in a way she had never done before. What's Your Tree invites you to join a small group to explore what calls YOU to be bigger and more powerful than you ever imagined? What cause is so important to you that you will go outside of your comfort zone to achieve it? What purpose are you willing to use your life to fulfill? In other words: What is YOUR tree?
What’s Your Tree is a symbolic question. It means “What is it that can call you and cause you to be bigger than you know yourself to be?”
What's Your Tree program uses this message and folds it into a powerful curriculum of 5 steps for workshops, courses, groups .
What's Your Tree equips everyday people to create the world they want to live in by activating their PURPOSE, giving them tools to turn their inspiration and passion into meaningful ACTIONS together.
One of the key ingredients for sustained action is the need to feel seen, heard, valued, and an opportunity to contribute. That happens within the space of small groups and communities.
It’s an organizing model that’s about helping work on the inside of people so they show up the most healthy, while at the same time supporting them to use their passion to make the difference in the world they are committed to making.
